Nutrient
Claims
In 1995 the Australian New Zealand Food Authority developed a voluntary
"Code of Practice on Nutrient Claims in Food Labels & in Advertisements";
this code is NOT legally binding (i.e it is not Food Law), but provides
guidance to industry on terms for food labels. Some claims may be confusing,
so you need to check the product's nutrition information panel or NIP,
usually on the back of the product e.g "Lite" can refer to
the flavour OR the fat content of the product - the NIP will reveal
if the product is light in fat.
