Singapore Dietary Guidelines
Eat
a variety of foods
- Maintain
desirable body weight
- Restrict
total fat intake to 20% to 30% of total
energy
- Modify
composition of fat in the diet to one-third
polyunsaturated, one-third monounsaturated
and one-third saturated
- Reduce
cholesterol intake to less than 300mg/day
- Maintain
intakes of complex carbohydrate at about
50% of total energy intake
- Reduce
salt intake to less than 4.5g/day (1800mg
of sodium)
- Reduce
intake of salt-cured, preserved and smoked
foods
- Reduce
intake of refined and processed sugar
to less than 10% of energy.
- Increase
intake of fruits and vegetables
and wholegrain cereal products, thereby
increasing vitamins A, C and fiber
- For
those who drink, have no more than two
or three standard drinks (about 40g of
alcohol) per day.
- Encourage
breastfeeding of infants until they are
at least 6 months old.
